Back to rule 600

The CA is controlled by the following buttons:

Start:  CA are planted.
Hide CA-1 Hide CA-2
Out CA-1+: raise output rate Out CA-1-: reduce output rate Out CA-2+: raise output rate Out CA-2-: reduce output rate
Infection: Infect CA-1
Protect: protects CA from operating under rule=624
Information:
Input rates Output rates. CA sizes, CA resources, Rule number, Protection
true or false

Set Protect = falseClick on Start. The CA evolve to their state of maximum when resources are 144. When the size of CA-1 exceeds 23, it activates rule = 624 and the system creates a new attractor (solution) which also maximizes CA sizes and resources. You may rescue the system in two ways, but first Hide CA-2:

1. Click several (many) times on Infection  until CA-1 shrinks whereupon rule-600  is reactivated.  As  CA-1  recovers from  the infection, it gets better, maximizes its resources whereupon rule 624 takes over.

2. Set Out CA-1 =.5 CA-1 shrinks and is rescued from rule 624. It gradually approaches its maximum. However  its resources are about 90. This is the price for freeing itself from the tyranny of rule 624  Click on Start and so on.

Now let CA-1 handle the situation. Set Protect = true, and click on Start.  The CA start growing, and when rule 624 subdues the system, CA-1 raises its Output rate, then shrinks and rule 600 is re-establish. The price for its rescue from the tyranny of rule 624 is the loss of resources.

Please note:

1. Infection which injures structure, stands for the effect of the environment on the system. Under circumstances one disease may protect from another one.  For example, sickle cell anemia, a genetic disease that slightly alters the structure of hemoglobin and therefore imparts some resistance to malaria. The price is a loss of resources (tolerance) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malaria).
2. CA behavior is controlled  by its input and output rates whose manipulation affects CA resources and sizes.
3. Changes in CA-1 rates affect the entire system.
