A recent publication by Demicheli et all, describes an important relationship between tumor volume and axillary metastasis. They describe the frequency of axillary node involvement versus primary tumor volume in 10 selected series of patients incorporating a total of 57,244 women with resectable breast cancer
Tumor and metastasis are related by an allometric equation:
metastasisĀ  = f [alpha, beta, tumor]
alpha is a scaling factor and beta allometric coefficient.
The sizes of body organs and tissues are related to each other by an allometric equation
and so does the tumor
tumorĀ  = f [alpha, beta, body]
- Organism and tumor interact allometrically
- Epidemiological functions can be derived from tumor growth.
- Leveling off of epidemiological functions is an allometric manifestation.
